HARD
AT WORK: While in Ottawa for a board meeting of the Federation
of Canadian Municipalities in December 2004, Councillor Kositsky
and Aaron Dinwoodie, a past President of the Union of B.C.
Municipalities, dropped in at 24 Sussex Drive to discuss
the return of the fuel tax to municipalities. Unfortunately
the Prime Minister was not at home that morning to receive
guests from the west, but successful negotiations between
FCM, UBCM, the Province of B.C. and the federal government
means local governments in B.C. now receive more than $600
million annually in gas taxes for local roads and public
transit improvements.
